Let's Use Drones for a Good Purpose.

Alec Momont of TU Delft's Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering ( Netherlands) designed his prototype for an ambulance drone together with the Living Tomorrow innovation platform as part of his graduation programme. When the emergency services receive a cardiac arrest call, this unmanned, autonomously navigating aeroplane can quickly deliver a defibrillator to the emergency scene.

CARDIAC ARREST = paro cardíaco
UNMANNED = no tripulado
DELIVER = entregar

A network of such drones could significantly increase the chance of survival following a cardiac arrest: from 8% to 80%!

Jimmy Fallon, Adele & The Roots Sing "Hello"

 On Tuesday night,The Tonight Show posted a video of Monday's guest, Adele, singing her hit song  “Hello” in a small greenroom with Jimmy Fallon and The Roots, using nothing but classroom instruments.

ENJOY!

Hello, it's me
I was wondering if after all these years you'd like to meet
To go over everything
They say that time's supposed to heal ya
But I ain't done much healing

Hello, can you hear me?
I'm in California dreaming about who we used to be
When we were younger and free
I've forgotten how it felt before the world fell at our feet

There's such a difference between us
And a million miles

Hello from the other side
I must've called a thousand times
To tell you I'm sorry
For everything that I've done
But when I call you never
Seem to be home

Hello from the outside
At least I can say that I've tried
To tell you I'm sorry
For breaking your heart
But it don't matter, it clearly
Doesn't tear you apart anymore

Hello, how are you?
It's so typical of me to talk about myself, I'm sorry
I hope that you're well
Did you ever make it out of that town
Where nothing ever happened?

It's no secret
That the both of us
Are running out of time

So hello from the other side (other side)
I must've called a thousand times (thousand times)
To tell you I'm sorry
For everything that I've done
But when I call you never
Seem to be home

Hello from the outside (outside)
At least I can say that I've tried (I've tried)
To tell you I'm sorry
For breaking your heart
But it don't matter, it clearly
Doesn't tear you apart anymore

Ooooohh, anymore
Ooooohh, anymore
Ooooohh, anymore
Anymore

Hello from the other side (other side)
I must've called a thousand times (thousand times)
To tell you I'm sorry
For everything that I've done
But when I call you never
Seem to be home

Hello from the outside (outside)
At least I can say that I've tried (I've tried)
To tell you I'm sorry
For breaking your heart
But it don't matter, it clearly
Doesn't tear you apart anymore

Welcome to Happiness: Bye Bye Ebola

In 2014, the worst outbreak (=brote)  of Ebola in history hit Sierra Leone hard and thousands have died from the virus. The already weak health system could not cope with the impact of the outbreak.

What better way to celebrate a nation’s comeback from the grips of a terrible disease than with a dance move that went viral?
Remixing Afrobeat anthem ‘Azonto,’ Block Jones and Freetown Uncut have got Sierra Leoneans back on their feet to celebrate life as an ebola-free nation. Watch schoolchildren, health care workers, faith leaders and people all across the country dance away in this video that will definitely bring a smile to your face.
And now that Guinea’s last known ebola patient has recovered, there’s even more reason to hope for an ebola-free world by 2016.
COMEBACK= retorno, regreso
GRIPS = garras
FAITH = fe

Syrian Refugees: A Humane Thing.

Dutch volunteer Darcia explains why she's helping refugee families landing on shores of Lesvos, Greece

yv

Ms. Fleur has travelled from the Netherlands to this Greek island near the coast of Turkey as a volunteer to help mothers and their children. The founder and CEO of The Urban Baby Wearer, she came here with the intent of giving away (and instructing mothers on how to use) specialized baby carriers in which the mothers wear their babies against their bodies. But the huge demand for basic services means Fleur spends her days doing everything from walking into the sea and carrying babies off the incoming rafts to fetching water and blankets.

Yesterday I had a baby of five days old in my hands,” she says. “It came in a life jacket. Somebody handed me a life jacket and I was like, ‘Why am I getting a life jacket?’ And I looked inside, and inside was a five-day-old baby.

GIVE AWAY = DONAR
BABY CARRIER = MOCHILA PORTA-BEBÉS
INCOMING = ENTRANTE
RAFTS = BALSAS
FETCH = IR A BUSCAR
BLANKET = MANTA
LIFE JACKET = CHALECO SALVAVIDAS
Wait and see
On this day, more than 40 boats arrive on the island. Each raft carries roughly 50 people, each who paid a smuggler approximately US$1,300 to make the short but sometimes dangerous trip from Turkey to Greece.
I’m a mom, so what inspired me is to see other moms in need,” she says. “Because if I’m fleeing a war, with a child, I hope there is another mom saying, ‘OK, let me help you.’”

ROUGHLY = APROXIMADAMENTE
SMUGGLER = CONTRABANDISTA, TRAFICANTE
IN NEED = EN NECESIDAD
FLEE = HUIR
(...)
I don’t see myself as doing something special,” Fleur says. She’s been here only four days and will be leaving soon. “I think we’re just doing a humane thing. That’s why I’m coming back. It feels like it’s not done.

Turkey's Deadliest Attack in its Modern History

Two suicide bombers are believed to have caused the blasts near the city's main train station, Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said in a televised address to the nation

The atrocity is the deadliest single terrorist attack on Turkish soil and has happened at a politically sensitive time, just three weeks before national elections.

(CNN)Though no group has claimed responsibility for the deadly weekend bombings in Ankara, the focus of the investigation is the Islamic extremist group ISIS, Turkey's Prime Minister said Monday.
Two suicide bombers are believed to have carried out Saturday's attack near Ankara's main train station, killing at least 97 people and wounding nearly 250 others, Turkey has said.

School Year 2015/16

Believe it or not, there are some good things about going back to school:

1. Seeing your long-lost friends again! “Hey, where have you been, guys!?”

2.  Making new friends who will brighten your life.

 3. Learning new things. You will be much wiser after another year at school

4. You may find new challenges or  goals in life that lead you to the life you want.

5.  It is a fresh start to do better in your classes.

6. You may find the love of your (school)life.

7. ... ?

Let's make it easier! Here you have some useful tips:

1. Be organized. Use your time wisely. Schedules or calendars of your regular routines can help you.

2. Be patient, relaxed, and focused. Remember: you are not alone.

3. Challenge yourself in high school, but don't overwhelm yourself

4Never stop learning... read, grow, and expand your mind.  Don't pass-up opportunities to learn
   and experience new things: knowledge is power.

5. Don't let doubt kill your dreams. If at first you don't succeed, try and try again.

6. Do your best. Never stop doing your best just because someone doesn't give you credit. Fight for your goals.

7. Believe in yourself! Being successful requires believing in yourself. A person who believes in him/herself will not be afraid to push him/herself to the next level and to risk the possibility of failure.Trust your heart.  Believe in yourself.  Follow your dream and you can do whatever you want to.

Smile! If you are not happy to be in class, how can you expect to learn something?

But if you still feel lazy to start the new school year, you should read this:

“In some parts of the world, students are going to school every day. It’s their normal life. But in other parts of the world, we are starving for education…. it's like a precious gift.  It's like a diamond.”

 .................................................................................................(Shot by the Taliban for campaigning for  ..................................................................................................girls' schooling)

So... remember, my dear students:

Happy New School Year!

It never gets easier, but you get better.

The Best Summer Homework List

A summer homework list assigned by Cesare Catà of Don Bosco High School in Fermo, a small town on the Adriatic Sea in northeastern Italy, is currently going viral across that country.

1. Sometimes, in the morning, go take a walk along the seashore completely alone: look at the way sunlight is reflected on the water and think about the things you love the most in your life; be happy.
2. Try to use some of the new words we learned together this year: the more things you manage to say, the more things you’ll manage to think; and the more things you think, the freer you’ll be.
3. Read as much as you possibly can. But not because you have to. Read because summers inspire adventures and dreams, and when you read you’ll feel like swallows in flight. Read because it’s the best form of rebellion you have (for advice on what to read, come see me).
4. Avoid things, situations and people who make you feel negative or empty: seek out stimulating situations and the companionship of friends who enrich you, who understand you and appreciate you for who you are.
5. If you feel sad or afraid, don’t worry: summer, like every marvelous thing in life, can throw the soul into confusion. Try keeping a diary as a way to talk about how you feel (in September, if you’d like, we’ll read it together).
6. Dance, shamelessly. On a dance floor near your house, or alone in your room. Summer is dance, and it’s foolish not to take part.
7. At least once, watch the sunrise. Stay silent and breathe. Close your eyes, be thankful.
8. Play a lot of sports.
9. If you meet someone you find enchanting, tell him or her as sincerely and gracefully as you can. It doesn’t matter if she or he doesn’t understand. If they don’t, she or he wasn’t meant to be; otherwise, summer 2015 will be a golden time together (if this doesn’t work out, go back to point number 8).
10. Review your notes from our class: Compare the things we read and learned to the things that happen to you.
11. Be as happy as sunlight, as untamable as the sea.
12. Don’t swear. Always be well-mannered and kind.
13. Watch films with heartbreaking dialogue (in English if you can), in order to improve your language skills and your ability to dream. Don’t let the movie end with the final credits: live it again while you’re living and experiencing your summer.
14. In sparkling sunlight or hot summer nights, dream about how your life could and should be. During the summer, always do everything you can to avoid giving up, and everything you can to pursue your dream.
15. Be good.

You Won't Regret It!
