25s in Madrid

Madrid, Spain (CNN) -- Thousands of protesters fed up with the country's austerity measures demonstrated here Tuesday outside the congressional building.

Clashes between police and demonstrators in central Madrid's Neptuno Square resulted in 28 people being hurt, two of them police officers, a police spokesman said.

The spokesman said 22 people among the estimated crowd of 6,000 had been arrested.

Demonstrators said police were shooting into the crowd with rubber bullets; the police would not comment.

"We have you surrounded," some demonstrators sang. "We have no fear."

At one point, Spanish police charged demonstrators with batons to prevent them from approaching the parliament, which was in session (...)

Spain wants change

Thousands of people have taken part in protests across Spain's main cities, defying a government ban on political protest ahead of local elections.
In Madrid, some 25,000 protesters occupied a main square. Others gathered in Barcelona, Valencia and Seville.
The protesters are angry with the government's economic policies and the country's high youth unemployment rate.
Spain's electoral commission had ordered those camped out in Madrid to leave ahead of Sunday's elections.
But, as the ban came into effect at midnight, the crowds started cheering and police did not move in.
The protest began six days ago in Madrid's Puerta del Sol as a spontaneous sit-in by young Spaniards frustrated at 45% youth unemployment.
The crowd camping out in the square overnight grew and the protest has spread to other cities across the country.
According to Spanish news agency, Efe, a total of some 60,000 protesters has gathered across Spain, in Barcelona, Valencia, Seville, Bilbao as well as the capital.

LETTER from OTTAWA

Hi guys!

I am writing to you from Ottawa (Canada) to greet you and tell you briefly my experience as a teacher abroad. I am working in a high school that is located in the Beacon Hill neighbourhood of Gloucester, in the city of Ottawa. It is called Colonel By Secondary School…

During these weeks, I have been attending classes of different subjects (especially Music classes) to observe how the educational system in general and how one high school in particular works. Things I have observed include many details related to the relationship between the teachers and the students, the many different and effective teaching styles,...I see many things that I like and a few that I do not but in general, my experience in a Canadian high school is being really wonderful.

I speak English all the time so I´m learning a lot! I encourage you to learn languages and if you can, to take a course abroad. You know that learning a language helps you to communicate with people from other countries and it can help you in your future career. You will be the more skilled candidate when employers are interviewing and hiring.

Well, I will tell you in more detail when I return to Galicia in a few days. I hope you are studying hard!

Regards from Ottawa.

Nuria.
